Jean-Auguste Ingres
Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (born August 29, 1780 – died January 14, 1867) was a famous French painter. He was part of the Neoclassical art movement. Ingres saw himself as a "history painter." This meant he wanted to paint big scenes from history, myths, or the Bible.
Even though he loved history painting, his portraits are what he is most famous for today. His unique style, which sometimes stretched shapes and spaces, helped inspire later modern art artists like Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.
